Welcome to Valley County, Montana

Located in the northeastern portion of the State of Montana, Valley County was created in February 6, 1893 and contains 5,062 square miles. It is larger than the state of Connecticut, but smaller than Hawaii. Primarily an agricultural area, it also provides recreational opportunities in conjunction with Ft. Peck dam and lake on the Missouri River.

The county seat is Glasgow with a population of between 3,000 and 4,000. Other communities in the county include Hinsdale, Vandalia, Tampico, Fort Peck, St. Marie, Opheim, Glentana, Richland, Larslan and Nashua. The entire population of the county is between 7,000 and 8,000.

The county has an active historical society. Glasgow is the home of the Pioneer Museum which contains many artifacts and memorabilia relating to the county's history. It is located at 816 U.S. Highway 2 in west Glasgow and is open daily between Memorial Day and Labor Day. There is also a genealogy group, the Glasgow Root Diggers.

Courthouse offices include a Clerk and Recorder, Treasurer and Clerk of District Court. The Valley County Courthouse is located at 501 Court Square, Glasgow, MT 59230.
